How does your company handle it? I’m just returning from over a week of sick leave and as a consultant that's very difficult. Like many positions, the work is waiting for you when you return, and it can take a couple of days to get up and running again. It’s got me thinking about Total Rewards and how Sick Leave is a way to show staff that you care about their well-being.
Here’s some questions that I cover when I’m auditing a company’s comp and benefits:
How much sick leave time does your organization offer? Do you have to comply with local laws?
Is your sick leave policy competitive in your industry?
Are located near a city, county, state with sick leave laws that you can replicate that goes beyond what you currently offer?
Has your org considered UNLIMITED sick leave time? It doesn’t get abused as you might think!
Do you have an emergency action plan for key roles when they are out for an extended period?
Do you understand how sick leave works with FMLA?
